Preserving the
Flavors of Home
My Journey
Hi, I’m Liang — the founder of Nan Yang Delight.
My family’s story goes back to a small kopitiam my grandfather ran in Malacca after immigrating from Hainan in the 1930s. It wasn’t fancy, but it was full of heart. My dad was literally born right above the shop.
What I loved most were the people and flavors that came together there:
the kopi and kaya toast my grandfather made each morning,
the Malay auntie dropping off baskets of kuih to sell at the counter,
the Indian uncle setting up by the door with his curry rice.
That blend of cultures and the way food connected everyone — that’s the spirit that shaped me. And it’s the feeling I want to recreate through Nan Yang Delight.

Why Nan Yang Delight?
“Nan Yang” (南洋) refers to the Chinese communities that settled throughout Southeast Asia — including Malaysia, where my family’s roots run deep. For me, it represents migration, heritage, and the beautiful mixing of cultures that shaped the food I grew up with.
Nan Yang Delight is my way of honoring that history while creating something new here in LA: a celebration of Malaysian flavors, made with intention and heart.
What We Make
Right now, I’m making Acar — a bright, tangy mix of vegetables pickled in an aromatic spice paste. It’s crunchy, refreshing, and a staple on Malaysian tables, including mine growing up.
Every jar is a small-batch taste of home, crafted in LA with the same warmth and nostalgia I remember from my family’s meals. And this is just the beginning — more Malaysian staples I grew up loving are on the way.
Rooted in Malaysia, Crafted in LA
Nan Yang Delight is my way of keeping my family’s legacy alive — sharing the comfort, flavor, and heritage of Malaysian cooking with people here in Los Angeles.
Thanks for being part of this journey.
